Garry Bevan is a British scuba diving professional, cruising guide, author, and musician who first arrived in Bali in June 1995 to perform the important duty of being best man at his best friend's wedding. The plan was simple: attend the ceremony, enjoy a short holiday, and fly home. Unfortunately, Indonesia had other ideas.

Within a couple of weeks he found himself managing a newly opened luxury dive resort on Bali's north coast and, before he quite realised what had happened, had accidentally exchanged the British motorway system for the world's largest archipelago. Nearly three decades later, he is still there and remains convinced he made the better choice.

Since then, Garry has spent much of his adult life exploring Indonesia's islands, reefs and remote coastlines, researching places that most visitors never see. The result is the Ultimate Indonesia: Extraordinary Adventures series - richly illustrated cruising and diving guides that combine practical local knowledge, detailed maps, satellite imagery, dive site illustrations and exceptional photography.

His books include Exploring Komodo, Exploring Raja Ampat and the forthcoming Exploring Flores to Alor. Collectively, they represent thousands of hours of exploration, countless nautical miles under the keel, an alarming number of dives, and a camera and laptop that has seen far more of Indonesia than most people ever will.

There are still plenty of unexplored corners of the archipelago left to document, so with a bit of luck - and assuming nobody asks him to be best man again - there should be more books to come.
